Textbooks and Supplies
TEXTBOOKS
You’ll work from a set of carefully chosen textbooks each year, and we also recommend a few optional resources. We don’t sell textbooks and supplies, but you can use our discount to buy directly from the publishers. Check out the list of what you will need for the next enrollment.
OTHER SUPPLIES
As well as texts, you will need a massage table of your own, several sets of linens, massage lotion, scrubs, and other school supplies. On your first day, your instructors will talk to you about the supplies you’ll need and what to look for when you’re shopping.
Because this is blended learning, you’ll also need a computer and high-speed internet access when you’re not on campus. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer, because not all of the features of our online learning platform work on mobile devices like tablets.Â
We have created a handy guidebook to help you plan for these expenses. And remember: student funding often covers school expenses like these, so make sure to book a financial aid consultation!
FINANCIAL AID
Provincial and federal funding
Vicars students can apply for both federal and provincial student funding as long as they’re either Canadian citizens or permanent residents. If you are an Alberta resident, you can apply online for both types of funding at the same time. If you live outside Alberta, call the Registrar for advice about the process in your home province.
Government student aid comes in two forms: loans and grants. Government loans don’t have to be repaid until you’ve finished school. The government doesn’t charge interest while you’re still a student. Grants don’t have to be paid back at all.
FINANCIAL AID
Private and Community Funding
In addition to federal and provincial student aid, many indigenous bands and Metis associations have student financing for qualified members. There are many public and private awards and scholarships available in each province. Bursaries and scholarships may also be available from other organizations, and we encourage you to research your options and of course, we will help. We have established relationships with many of the non-government groups that provide student aid, and regularly receive government training to ensure the Registrar’s office is up to date.
Financial support from Vicars School
We know that career training is an excellent investment in your financial security, but we also know that most of you can use a bit of help paying for it, so in addition to offering expert guidance in accessing public and private sources of student aid, we have a few aid packages of our own.
No-fee Payment Plan
Any student can apply for our no-fee, no-interest tuition installment plan that spaces out your payments during each school year
$1,000 Vicars Distance Grant
All students who travel more than 100km one way from their residence to campus are eligible. This grant reduces the student’s tuition by $1,000 to help offset some of the travel costs incurred.
$2,000 Vicars BC Distance Grant
All students travelling to campus from their BC residence are eligible. This grant reduces the student’s tuition by $2,000Â to help offset some of the travel costs incurred. In recent years, Student Aid BC has withdrawn funding for blended-learning programs.
$2,000 Vicars Armed Forces Grant
All Canadian veterans, CAF members, and their immediate family members, are eligible. This grant reduces the student’s tuition by $2,000. Click here to learn more.
Vicars Bursaries
The school has a budget for a limited number of student bursaries of up to $500 each that are granted based on need. They are not intended to replace other student funding, but to be available to meet unforeseen emergencies during the school year. In the event of financial hardship, students are encouraged to reach out to the Registrar’s Office to discuss options. Each case is considered individually.

The bottom line about paying for your massage education? There is more help than you might think. Let us help you navigate the student funding maze—book a free one-on-one consultation with Corrina Cornforth, our Registrar.
Yes, if you graduate from a good school! The income possibilities for massage therapists vary, with fees ranging from $90 to more than $120 for a 60-minute massage. Of course, your income is not guaranteed; you will need to fill and refill your booking calendar with clients all year long. The best way to do that is to do consistently good work.Â
Your happy clients will re-book and recommend you to their friends and family. That’s why choosing an accredited college or university program, with a full range of supervised clinical experiences and research-backed coursework is the step to a sustainable career. Vicars graduates tend to be fully booked within their first year of practice, and many are so busy that they’re not even accepting new clients!
Employers know (and tell us!) that Vicars grads are knowledgeable, skilled, and fully prepared to succeed as soon as they start work. Many massage therapists also choose to work for themselves; most Vicars graduates go on to be self-employed or even employ others.
They may choose to open their own clinic, work out of their home, or rent a room in a larger clinic environment.
To help our students prepare, we cover business topics in the program. Each student has to create a complete business plan, for example. Our instructors have extensive business experience; several own clinics, and all are entrepreneurs. They share their experiences with students throughout the course.
