Firefighters push their bodies to the absolute limits to protect our communities. Recently, local crews proved just how intense their conditioning is, at 2026 FireFit challenges across Alberta.
Known as “the toughest two minutes in sports,” participants race through simulated life-saving tasks. And they do so while wearing 50 pounds of restrictive tactical gear and carrying heavy equipment. After that kind of grueling physical toll, recovery is essential. That’s where Vicars student massage therapists stepped in to provide on-site therapeutic relief to these local heroes.
Real-world training for a community cause
The energy on the field was electric, and our students provided on-site massages for more than 70 competitors, gaining valuable clinical experience with tactical athletes while earning their essential practicum hours.
If this type of applied, community-focused education sounds like the right path for you, consider a career in massage therapy. Book a campus tour in Edmonton or Calgary, or connect directly with our admissions team at (780) 491-0574.
