Our January 2025 Giving Clinic will be raising money to address gender-based violence in Canada, through the YWCA’s Rose Campaign.
You can take part by booking a massage appointment for Jan 17 in Edmonton or Jan 17 in Calgary. All proceeds from the student massage clinics on those days will be donated to the cause. Clinic link
What is the YMCA Rose Campaign?
The YWCA of Canada Rose Campaign is an initiative dedicated to raising awareness and taking action against gender-based violence. The campaign is named in memory of the victims of École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal on December 6, 1989—fourteen women who were killed simply because they were going to school.
We’ve chosen the Rose Campaign as our clinic cause for January because the need to advocate for safer communities for all women and girls in Canada doesn’t end in December. Gender-based violence remains a critical issue worldwide, affecting millions of women and girls. In Canada, reports indicate that a significant number of women experience some form of violence in their lifetime, whether it be physical, emotional, or sexual. This violence not only inflicts immediate harm but also has long-lasting effects on the survivors’ mental and physical health, economic stability, and overall well-being. By addressing this urgent need, the Rose Campaign aims to bring about a cultural shift towards zero tolerance for violence against women, girls, and gender-diverse people.
What are Vicars Giving Clinics?
Vicars Giving Clinics are an opportunity for us to support a cause or organization that matters to us and reflects our values. We hold two Giving Clinic days a month during the regular school year; one each in Edmonton and Calgary. All funds from our student clinics on those days go to that month’s charity. We pick days that we predict will very busy at the clinic, to maximize the donation.
Thanks to our wonderful clients, we raised more than $11,000 in 2024 to support our food banks, street outreach organizations, the environment, and more!
