Thank you to all our wonderful clinic clients in Edmonton and Calgary. With your support, we raised $2,280 to help Albertans experiencing homelessness through our April Giving Clinics.
Your impact at a glance:
- $1,360 for Bissell Centre in Edmonton (April 16)
- $920 for Inn from the Cold in Calgary (April 18)
Vicars students also gave free massages to participants at Inn from the Cold’s Steps to End Homelessness fundraiser on April 26.
May Giving Clinics support mental health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month in Canada. Book a massage on May 21 at our Edmonton clinic or May 23 at our Calgary clinic, and you will be taking care of your own physical and mental health while supporting your fellow Albertans. Our May Giving Clinics benefit local branches of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).
The link between physical and mental health
We chose CMHA because mental health and physical wellness are closely linked. Massage therapy benefits our bodies and also has a positive impact on our minds. It can help with the pain of living with depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress.
CMHA is Canada’s most extensive community mental health organization. Their branches focus on awareness of mental health, suicide prevention, youth mental health, and resources for veterans and first responders.
CMHA Edmonton programs include a 24/7 Distress Line, online crisis chat, family and caregiver support, a housing program, peer support, and Prosper Place – a peer-led organization offering classes, games, and a safe and supportive social connection.
CMHA Calgary offers peer support, Recovery College, youth mental health education, and their Community Navigator service for personalized help accessing mental health resources and substance abuse treatment.
About Vicars Giving Clinics
Each month, we dedicate one student clinic day in Edmonton and one in Calgary to a cause that aligns with our values. On those days, 100% of student massage fees are donated. We schedule Giving Clinics on high-demand days to maximize your impact.
